Tumalo Gravel Ride + Picnic
August 18, 2021 @ 8:15 am - 10:15 am
Organizer: Mimi Graves 541-419-9616
Vaccinated Riders Only Please. An AQI of 100 cancels the ride. We are riding early to avoid the heat, of course. Please call with questions or suggestions. The ride is not too taxing at 23 miles.
This is a gravel ride I call the “Dirty Twin Bridges” as we travel a similar path, but detour to several dirt roads.
Can be done on a mountain bike if you are a strong rider as the gravel bikes will be much faster and the ride is 67% paved.
Bring a lunch so we can eat and chat outside in my yard afterwards. Drinks provided for lunch and STICKY BUNS available before we take off (for extra spurt of energy!).
Our average pace will be a moderate 11-13 mph. We will pause to regroup at turns.
Our starting point will be my house so that we can have a picnic afterwards in the back yard. My address is 64150 Tanglewood Dr and there is plenty of parking on the street. You are welcome to use my restroom. Please bring a chair and a lunch.
We will gather promptly at 8:15 am for a brief meeting so please walk up the driveway with your bicycle ready to roll. We will travel on mostly low traffic roads, however there are small sections of busier roads (Tumalo Road and Cline Falls Hwy) which do have shoulders.
Please ride single file on busy roads and double only when you don’t impede traffic. PLEASE RIDE WITH A MIRROR FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHERS.
It helps to look at this in advance and print it out if possible. Send it to your phone and then download it for voice navigation.
You MUST sign up to go on this ride. After you press ATTEND, be sure to fill out the “Complete Your RSVP” form with your full name, cell number, and Emergency Contact info, then SUBMIT. If needed, please cancel by 6pm on Tuesday, August 17th. Of course, an AQI of 100 or more will automatically cancel ride. (Fingers crossed.)
Rain cancels the ride. Check Meetup by 7:00 am on the morning of the ride for any updates.
*****Bella rides are “no-drop” rides and no one will be left behind. In consideration of others, we ask that you choose a ride that is close to your skill level based on the description given of the ride.
If you choose to leave the group by going significantly faster, or taking a different route, you have an obligation to let the leader know. When you leave the group, you are on your own.
No guests are allowed on this ride. You MUST be a current paid Bella member to attend.
Ride description: Travel smooth dirt roads climbing only 3 hills with constant mountain scenery and a peek at some unusual llamas and alpacas and whirly gig airplanes and possibly peacocks!
