CANCELLED – SPARKS LAKE KAYAK/SUP OUTING
June 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Organizer: Laury Riley, 541-408-4338
Let’s celebrate the First Day of Summer at Sparks Lake! This is one of the most beautiful lakes in Central Oregon and also one of the largest. There are scenic mountain views, some marshy areas to paddle in, and some rocky coves to explore. There will probably be crowds now that school is out so we are going early to avoid some of the chaos.
Please be AT SPARKS LAKE by 9am. Then unload your boat, park, and SIGN IN with me before launching. If you do not sign in, you will not be considered as being present on this outing. Please be prompt so that I am not waiting on shore while everyone else is paddling. We will rendezvous out on the water when everyone has launched.
To get to Sparks Lake: Drive up Century Drive, past Mt Bachelor. After Todd Lake, watch for the sign to Sparks Lake. Turn left at that sign, then left again at the fork to the Boat Ramp. You will drive at least 1 mile on a dusty, very bumpy, gravel road to the ramp. There is a pit toilet at the launch site. It will take about 40 minutes to drive from Bend, depending on where you live.
This event will be limited to 16 people, due to limited parking spaces. Please carpool with someone if at all possible. YOU WILL NEED A NW FOREST PASS to park.
Bring your paddle, life vest, whistle, permit, water and a hearty snack. Also sunglasses, sunscreen, paddling gloves and a hat with a strap. Bring dry shoes and a towel for afterwards. Also bring a fleece top, windbreaker and pants just in case. The temps are always cooler there and the forecast is only 71 in town that day. It might be 50 degrees at the lake when we arrive.
It is difficult to plan lunch after paddling as everyone gets back to shore on their own schedule. NOTE: Elk Lake charges $5 for parking on Fri, Sat and Sun, if you are thinking of going there for lunch.
Please RSVP YES if you plan to attend, so that you will receive any changes or cancellation notices due to weather or other factors.
This event is open only to Bella members with a signed waiver on file.
