Road Ride – Redmond to Smith Rock – 32 miles
June 22, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Organizer: Mary Fajer 503.369.2914 or [email protected]
This will be limited to 6 riders, myself included, in order to stay within the Bella guidelines for social distancing. Please don’t park too close together. Masks are strongly encouraged during our pre-ride remarks, and please stay 6 feet apart then and during our rest stops.
This ride is for women who are able to ride 32 miles at a pace of 11-13 mph. We will stop occasionally for regrouping. Please don’t sign up if you are a stronger, faster rider, or if you cannot ride 32 miles at this pace.
Our starting point will be Ridgeview High School in Redmond 4555 SW Elkhorn Ave Redmond OR 97756.
To get there from Bend: Drive toward Redmond on Hwy 97 to Veterans Way (stop light) and make a left turn. At the next stoplight, turn left onto SW Canal Street and follow this all the way to Elkhorn and turn right. You will see the high school on the right. There may be some road construction on Canal before turning onto Elkhorn. Park in the first parking lot on the left. There is NO restroom there. Consider stopping at Safeway in Redmond if you need to use a restroom.
We will gather promptly at 9:00am for a brief meeting and then roll out on the route. We will travel on mostly low traffic roads, however there are small sections of busier roads with little or no shoulder. We will cross Hwy 126 and eventually we will cross Hwy 97. We will take a break at Smith Rock and take in the beautiful view. The restrooms are open and at Smith Rock.
After the break, we will loop back into Redmond thru quiet residential areas and ride on part of the Dry Canyon Trail. This is a beautiful ride with many scenic mountain views and an awesome countryside.
It helps to look at this in advance and print it out if possible. Send it to your phone for voice navigation. Pay attention to the elevation profile to see where the hills are.
You MUST sign up to go on this ride. After you press ATTEND, be sure to fill out the “Complete Your RSVP” form with your cell number and Emergency Contact info, then SUBMIT. Please RSVP by 5pm on Sunday, June 21st. If needed, please cancel in a timely manner so that someone on the Waitlist can take your spot.
Rain cancels the ride. Check Meetup by 7am on the morning of the ride for any updates.
