Road Ride Aufderheide from Westfir

Strong Intermediate Road Bike Ride…Fellas invited.
Join Rod and I for our annual ride on the Aufderheide Byway. This route also known as Forest Road 19, is said to be one of the most beautiful in Oregon. The byway follows the Middle and North Forks of the Willamette River mostly through scenic forests to the top of Box Canyon. It is an out and back ride of 62 miles with approx. 3,000 feet of climbing. Riders may turn around at any point along the way. The steepest climbing occurs two miles before the summit. Meet in the parking lot at the Office Bridge Park which is directly across from the Westfir Lodge. Ready to roll out at 9am. Water and toilets are available in the parking lot. There is water in a campground about 18 miles from the start. Please bring enough food/snacks as there is nowhere to purchase anything.
We suggest spending at least Tuesday night in Oakridge as it 92 miles and more than a two hour drive from Bend. There are various motels, a Best Western and VRBO or Air B&B options. On Tuesday Aug 1st, we will organize a potluck at our rental cottage on the river.
