Redmond to Smith Rock with a Touch of Gravel – 22 miles

May 23, 2022 @ 3:30 am - 6:00 am

Organizers: Mary Fajer 503-369-2914 or [email protected] and Sylvia Williamson 206-459-7306 or [email protected]

This road ride is for anyone who would like to enjoy a beautiful route to Smith Rock State Park and avoid the busy O’Neil Hwy. There is a **small 1/2 mile section of moderately packed gravel with plenty of room to avoid any washboards.**

The gravel section is at the end of 33rd St, after crossing O’Neil Hwy. It is reflected on the new RWGPS route below. It is marked as paved, however.

A gravel bike or an ebike will do well. A road bike will also do well if you are ok with this type of gravel.

We will meet at the Northwest Entrance of the Dry Canyon Trail in Redmond near the Water Pollution Treatment Plant. The address for the plant is **3100 NW 19th St Redmond, OR**. If you put that into your GPS, you will be on 19th street and see a sign that says **”Dry Canyon Trail** **Parking”** on your right – follow it and that is where will will meet up.

We will meet promply at 10:15 for a pre-ride meeting and then roll out onto the route at 10:30. Please be on time. There is a porta potty available.

Our pace will be a comfortable 11-13mph and we will regroup periodically. Please don’t sign up if you are a stronger, faster rider or you cannot ride 22 miles at this pace.

We will travel on mostly low traffic roads with a couple of busier roads. We will cross Hwy 97, so be very careful. We will take a short break at Smith Rock and enjoy this iconic Oregon beauty! There are restrooms available.

We will loop back into Redmond thru some residential areas and end our ride on part of the Dry Canyon Trail. Please note: On the RWGPS route link, the Dry Canyon Trail is marked as unpaved for about 2.5 miles, however, it is well paved.
