Picnic Mtn ride GROUP 2:Tumalo Ridge/Swede Shelter/Sec 16/U Whoops/Skyliners
July 24, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

This is posted as an SOLID INTERMEDIATE ride(slightly faster pace than Group1) due to the amount of climbing and time constraint. Hoping to keep the total ride time to around 2-2.5 hours to make it back to picnic! So no dilly dallying. This climb is hard, but the views rewarding!!
ROLLOUT IS 9:00 AM SHARP! So arrive by 8:50am ready to roll and to make introductions !! Thank You!
The route is Tumalo Ridge Trail to the Swede Shelter to Sector 16 down Upper Whoops trail to Skyliners Ridge trail which will take us back to parking lot. BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT!!
Here is a description of the route:
Starting from SKYLINERS SNOPARK we will climb 560 ft for about 2 miles on single track. There is one short section with some rocks which most people walk. After the climb we will have amazing views of the mountains on a level ridge with manzanitas. Then we’ll go for about 1.5 miles through the manzanitas along the ridge on flat or slightly rolling terrain.
Somewhere around mile 3.5 we get dumped onto a forest road which we’ll climb (and climb) for about a mile to the Swede Shelter. The total climb to the Swede Shelter from the parking lot is about 920 ft over about 5 miles. At the Swede Shelter we get on Sector 16 (mostly downhill) to Upper Whoops (downhill) to Skyliner (downhill/little up) to the parking lot.
So …. the total ride should be around 14 miles with <1400 ft of climbing.

Trails have a few rock gardens but nothing too technical. It’s more about having built up the endurance for the long climb(s) and mileage involved. Bring lots of water, high-energy snacks and encouragement for your fellow riders.

Bella rides are ‘no-drop’ rides and we are committed to helping one another improve our riding skills. In consideration of other riders, however, we do ask that you choose an ability level that is close to your skills. No one will get left behind unless they choose to cut a ride short, want to go faster than the group or take a different route. All riders have an obligation to the ride coordinator to let her know if they are leaving the ride. Remember that when you leave the group, you are on your own.
