Adv Beginner MTB: Storm King
May 6, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Organizer Kelly O’Neill (928-363-0121). This is an advanced beginner mountain bike ride from the visitor center. There are a few rocky sections that most people walk … I walk them! We’ll keep an advanced beginner pace with frequent stops to regroup. We’ll probably get more spread out when we’re climbing because everyone has their own climbing pace but as soon as possible after a climb we’ll regroup. NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. This isn’t a technical trail but it does involve about half a mile of climbing at a grade of around 7%. You can see the elevation profile in the rwgps link. From the visitor center we’ll take the tunnel to catch & release. From C&R we intersect with lower storm king. Going up lower storm king starts out as a very low grade continuous climb. Then after crossing a stream it’s about half a mile of switchback climbing. Regroup at the top and head down to the big intersection with Funner and Tiddlywinks. Walk some rocks and continue on lower storm king. After crossing the road we continue on lower storm king to COD then ticket to ride south back to the visitor center. Overall not technical. The rocks to walk are very obvious. And all but serious rock hoppers will be walking them with you! One always has the option of leaving the ride and going ahead on one’s own if timing is an issue. Unfortunately for now, the ride is limited to 6 riders since Deschutes County has gone back to Extreme Risk for Covid19. Please be respectful of one another’s personal space while gathering before and after ride and at rest stops. Wear a mask if necessary. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35792854
