E-bike access and rules are continuously evolving. Bend Bella Cyclists follows all local, state, and land manager regulations. Riders are responsible for knowing where and how their e-bike is allowed.

Where E-Bikes Are Allowed

• Generally permitted on roads and motorized routes
• Singletrack access varies by trail system
• Currently allowed in:
  • Oregon State Parks
  • Select trails in Deschutes National Forest:
    • Phil’s / Wanoga / Sunriver areas
    • Peterson Ridge (near Sisters)
• Not all trails are open → Always verify before riding

Seasonal Closures

• Tumalo Winter Range:
  • E-bikes prohibited Dec 1 – Mar 31
  • Protects deer and elk habitat

E-Bike Classifications

• Class 1 – Pedal assist only, up to 20 mph (common for MTB)
• Class 2 – Throttle-powered (no pedaling required)
• Class 3 – Pedal assist up to 28 mph (road/gravel/commuter)
  Pedal assist = motor engages only while pedaling

Bend Bella Ride Policy

• Pedal assist only (no throttles) on Bella rides
• Road & Gravel:
  • Class 1 and/or Class 3 may be allowed
• Singletrack:
  • Depends on trail system rules (often Class 1 only)
• Ride Leader Discretion:
  • Final decision on whether e-bikes are allowed

Ride postings will specify:

• No E-bikes
• E-bikes OK
• E-bikes Only

Rider Responsibility

• Know your e-bike class
• Follow all trail and land-use rules
• Confirm access before riding

Group Ride Etiquette

• Match the ride pace – Don’t push or surge ahead
• Ride with the group – Avoid jumping ahead, then waiting
• Don’t sandbag – Use appropriate assist to maintain flow
• Respect the sweep:
  • Avoid falling back, then using motor to catch up
  • Keep group cohesion consistent
